Akzeptanzlücke (2020)
Digital Bodies and Posthuman Photography
Image series and video loop
Can we empathize with simulated bodies? The project deals with this question and the mechanisms of digital image synthesis used for such representations. The name Akzeptanzlücke points towards the concept of the Uncanny Valley: a relation between an object's human resemblance and the viewers emotional response to it.
3D body shells were captured by a simulated camera, the orientation and exposure of which was completely automated. The aim is to to trigger human reactions in the audience, with a minimum of human involvement in the creation process.
